There is a hunger rising in the Body of Christ for authentic supernatural encounters—not hype, not imitation, and not striving, but genuine encounters that are rooted in the Word of God and led by the Holy Spirit.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12 that there are diversities of gifts, varieties of ministries, and different manifestations of the Spirit, yet it is the same Holy Spirit who works through them all. There are revelatory gifts, power gifts, and vocal gifts. There are gifts of healings, workings of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, interpretation, words of wisdom, and words of knowledge.
And I want to remind you of something very simple:
These gifts are not reserved for a select few.
Jesus said that signs would follow those who believe. That includes you. That includes me. That includes us.
Sometimes we make the supernatural more complicated than it needs to be. We search for something deep while overlooking the foundational things that prepare our hearts to walk with God in greater measures of His presence and power.
So how do we pray for growth in supernatural encounters?
First, stay hungry for God. Tell Him that you want more of Him. Ask Him to increase your hunger for His presence, His Word, and His ways. Hunger positions us to receive.
Second, pray the Word of God. Do not simply read the Bible—pray it. Meditate upon it. Take what God has said and turn it into conversation with Him. When you read about healing, ask Him to release healing. When you read about dreams and visions, ask Him to speak through dreams and visions. When you read that signs follow those who believe, say, “Lord, I believe. Let Your Word become reality in my life.”
We must also deal honestly with the things that hinder us. Fear can keep us from stepping into what God has prepared. Comparison can cause us to imitate someone else rather than discovering the unique expression of Christ within us.
Learn from models, but do not become a mimic.
God has something distinct for you. You do not have to covet another person’s gift, calling, platform, or experience. There is more than enough in the Holy Spirit for every one of us. Our identity must be secured in Christ Jesus, not in a gift.
From that place of identity, we learn to abide. Jesus said that He did what He saw the Father doing. That is relational Christianity. The supernatural is not primarily about possessing a gift; it is about walking in relationship with God. We watch, we listen, and then we obey.
We also learn to pray the simple prayer of trust: “Lord, I trust You.”
Proverbs tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. That becomes especially important when the Holy Spirit begins leading us into unfamiliar territory. We do not have to understand everything before we obey. We trust Him!
Then there is the lifestyle of waiting and watching. We take time to worship, to adore Him, to sit in His presence, and to pay attention. Supernatural encounters are not something we manufacture. We posture ourselves before the Lord and become attentive to what He wants to do.
And finally, we ask!
The book of James tells us, “You do not have because you do not ask.” Sometimes the simplest prayer is the one we forget to pray.
“Lord, I desire more of You. If You are leading, I am following. Increase the activity of the Holy Spirit in my life. Teach me to recognize Your voice. Give me dreams, visions, wisdom, discernment, healing, faith, and whatever gifts You desire to release for Your glory.”
So let me bring this together with five simple prayers to help you grow in supernatural encounters:

The gifts of the Spirit are like the colors of a rainbow. There is often overlap. Healing can flow through prayer, through worship, through listening, through creative expression, or through the laying on of hands. The Holy Spirit is wonderfully creative.
So let us not restrict Him to the ways we already know.
Be hungry. Pray the Word. Cast off comparison. Abide in Christ. Trust Him. Wait and watch. And ask.

Gracious Father, in the wonderful name of Jesus, I hunger for more diverse supernatural encounters in my life. I declare that the Holy Spirit, who was creative at the beginning of the world, is the same today and forever in His divine nature.
Therefore, I say, “Come, Holy Spirit, and be creative in my life!” Release a diversity of spiritual gift encounters for me, Your child. As You explain in James 4:2, I do not have because I do not ask—so I ask! Send more, Lord!
I welcome every form of visionary encounter as well. Release an increase of dreams, visions, and visitations, in Jesus’ name! I align myself with the completed work of the cross of Calvary and expect that supernatural encounters will be on the rise in my life for the glory of God.
