A Values-Centered Life

Personal Update from James W. Goll

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men…”
Colossians 3:23

It really does matter what we do with our life. After all, we only have this one life to live. But it also matters how you do what you do and who you do it for. We really do want our lives to matter. Right? To do so, we must live our life in light of eternity.

Let me share one short vivid dream with you, before I turn the corner and move into a Special Personal Update from my heart to yours.

 A Soaring Dream

I was having one those exhilarating dreams where I was soaring or flying through the heavens. It was quite an electric experience. All of a sudden, it was as though I came to a stand-still hovering in space over a mansion in the heavenly places. I found myself peering into a beautiful flower garden and saw a woman bent over working in her well-manicured spacious back yard.

Suddenly, we caught each other’s attention. She looked up at me and our eyes and hearts immediately connected. It was my mother’s oldest sister, my endearing Aunt Mae Burns, whom I greatly loved. She gazed right at me and stated, “Do what matters.”

I had been seeking the Lord for direction in a critical time of decision making. The statement in the dream, gave no factual information, but rather a clear word of wisdom. I immediately woke up from that dream with a sense of knowing what I needed to do: “Do what matters.”

A Values-Centered Life

We each need anchors to our lives so that when the “winds and waves” of life’s storms come, we will remain secure and immovable. I found that it is immensely important to pre-determine these anchors for your life. I call this living a Values-Centered Life. Here are four of my primary Values that keep me Anchored:

  1. God-Centered
  2. Family-Centered
  3. Wholeness-Centered
  4. Legacy-Centered

These are some of the Core Values of my life. What are yours? Make sure you are grounded in the Word, the Will, and the Ways of God!
