How Does God Reveal His Secrets?

“God does nothing without first revealing his secrets to his servants, the prophets.”

Amos 3:7

James Goll here with a special alert podcast: “How Does God Reveal His Secrets?”

Did you know that God has secrets?

I want to share some insights on this topic. Amos 3:7 declares:

“God does nothing unless He first reveals His secrets to His servants, the prophets.”

Many today read that Scripture as “God does nothing,” limiting how He speaks and moves based on their theology or experience. But God is not confined to our boxes. He moves according to His ways, not ours.

Often, what we believe about God is shaped by what we have (or haven’t) experienced, yet when He breaks through, our understanding must expand.

This principle is especially true in the areas of healing, prophecy, and the role of spiritual gifts. While some dismiss these as belonging only to the past, the reality is that Jesus is still present and active today.

The New Testament reveals that while all believers are part of the priesthood, God still distributes different gifts within the body, including prophetic ones, for the strengthening of His people.

God Still Speaks

At its core, Amos 3:7 reminds us that God does speak! He reveals His heart and His plans. The question is not whether He is speaking, but whether we are willing to remain open to how He chooses to do so.

God Reveals Secrets Through Relationship

The primary way God reveals His secrets is through intimacy and friendship. Just as Moses spoke with God face to face, as one speaks with a friend, so God invites us into that same kind of relationship.

Revelation is not just about receiving information; it is about connection. God shares His heart with those who draw near, who listen, and who cultivate closeness with Him. His secrets are not distributed casually, but entrusted in the context of relationship, where trust and familiarity are built over time.

Revelation Is Given for the Body Through Different Gifts

While every believer has access to hear God’s voice, Scripture also shows that there are different roles and gifts within the Body of Christ. Some are uniquely graced to receive and communicate God’s heart in ways that serve and strengthen others.

This is not about hierarchy or status, but about function and edification. God distributes gifts so that His voice can be expressed in diverse ways, all working together to build up the Church and bring clarity to His purposes.

Revelation Must Be Stewarded with Wisdom

Not everything God reveals is meant to be shared publicly. Wisdom and maturity are required to steward revelation well. Some words are personal, meant for private reflection or prayer, while others are meant to be shared at the right time and in the right way.

It is important to seek God’s guidance before communicating what has been received. God is looking for trustworthy people, those who can carry His secrets with integrity, discernment, and restraint, honoring both the message and the relationship from which it came.

From Revelation to Manifestation: The Missing Step

There is a step that is often overlooked.

We receive a word. We may even share a word. But then we move on.

Yet Scripture gives us another instruction in Jeremiah 27:18:

“If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, let them now make intercession…”

Revelation is not the end of the process. It must become intercession.

We are to take what God reveals and pray it back to Him, partnering with His heart until what was spoken is manifested.
