How Praise Sanctifies the Atmosphere: Build a Throne for God

Dear Friend,

This is James W. Goll with your monthly Discerners’ Exhortation. This month’s theme is simple yet powerful: Build Him a Throne.

Our lead Scripture is Psalm 22:3

“You are holy, O You who are enthroned on the praises of Israel.”

We often ask, “Where is God in the midst of all this?” Beloved, God not only has a name, “I AM”. He also has an address: P-R-A-I-S-E. When we enthrone Him with our praises, we sanctify the atmosphere in our homes, churches, and cities. In a month when the United States celebrates Thanksgiving, let’s do more than mark a day. Let’s build a dwelling place for His presence.

As I share in my book Praying with God’s Heart,

“Do you want to establish a throne over your family, your home, your city, your church, your ministry, your nation where Jesus comes and sits in all of His authority? You can build such a throne through your high praises: ‘You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel’ (Psalm 22:3).”

From Noise to Presence: Five Discerners’ Principles
  1. Listen, then speak. The Holy Spirit’s first ministry is listening (John 16:13). Model heaven’s protocol: be quick to hear and slow to speak (James 1:19). Selah (pause) before you pray or prophesy.
  2. Sanctify the atmosphere. Praise isn’t filler; it’s foundational. Thanksgiving opens the gates; praise builds the throne (Psalm 100:4; Psalm 22:3).
  3. Trade criticism for consecration. Grumbling empowers darkness; gratitude enthrones God. Shift from “Nothing good can come from here” to “The Lord is good, and His mercy endures forever.”
  4. Thank Him for the partial. In Luke 17, ten were cleansed but one returned to give thanks, and was made whole. Gratitude in the “partial” makes room for completion.
  5. Add your instrument to God’s symphony. As I write in Strike the Mark, each of us carries a distinct sound. Whether drum or violin, release your sound in time and order. Together we can host a concert of worship and intercessionTry This All Month— Simple Activations

Praise Walk: Take a 10–15 minute walk around your neighborhood, blessing homes, schools, and businesses by name.

Thanksgiving List: Daily, write three “partials” you’re grateful for and then thank God in advance for their completion.

Gate Prayers: Pray at the “gates” of your city (commerce, justice, and spiritual life) asking God to seat His rule there.

Two-Minute Selah: Before calls, meetings, or ministry, go silent and listen. Respond as the Spirit leads.

Friends, we are not called to be tale-bearing intercessors who pray after the fact; we’re forerunner intercessors who prepare the way. Let’s enthrone Him over our lives, gatherings, and regions, this month and beyond.

With Faith to Build Him a Throne, Together,

James W. Goll God Encounters Ministries
