BACK DROP TO CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND – by James W. Goll
Growing up in rural Missouri, our Youth Group went Christmas caroling every year. People loved it in little Cowgill, Missouri. We sang a mixture of songs from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to “O Come All Ye Faithful.” We would always close each serenade with, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Who doesn’t love Christmas music? Within this one genre, there is every style from carols to crooner classics and family-fun songs. Like many of you, I have enjoyed them all. So, you hold in your hand a variety of musical styles from swing to inspiration to standard carols.
BEHIND THE SCENES
I was at a gathering and a friend said, “James, I believe you are to record Christmas music.” In my heart, I responded, “I would love to do that.” Then the Holy Spirit released confirmation. So, I took these words straight to heart.
But how? And with whom? I realized I had a studio right in my own “Upper Room.” McKendree Tucker, who was my previous producer and arranger, was willing to work with me again. But who would coach me? Could I be going into a new place where I integrate everything I’ve been taught and come up with a new distinct sound? Something inside of me said, “Yes!”
Then came this phone call from a person I had met only one time, Renee Grant-Williams. She called me one night and said, “James, ‘Let It Snow.'” The rest is history. I was tutored in a vocal stylistic approach. Just imagine, I had some of the best tutors on Never Alone and now I had an incredible new world-class tutor on Christmas Wonderland. God has gone out of His way to bring the best together!
I am known for the resonance of my voice. So, I felt it was appropriate to bring my signature sound to you by prayerfully reading Scripture. I included a Scripture-based prayer from the Word of God in this album titled, “Glory in the Highest.” There is no better way to bring honor to God than to come into alignment with the Heavenly Host. I trust that this collection of music will leave you doing the same! For He Alone is Worthy!
